I used header wrap on my exhaust and chose to change and go to Jet Hot brand
ceramic coating. I have no data on how effective the wrap was at lowering temps
under the cowl however, the issue I had was, the wrap draws or holds moisture
and my exhaust was rusting badly.

I did some research and found a company called Jet Hot that specializes in
ceramic coating exhausts for the racing industries. Steve Bennett of Great
Plains recommenced them to me. I consider Steve Bennett of Great Plains
Aircraft to be the greatest authority on the VW conversion and his
recommendation was all I needed.

You can find other ceramic coating companies but the difference is Jet Hot
coats both the exterior and inside of the pipes. They give a lifetime warranty
even on my not new pipes.  After several years of use, I did have some
questions on some spotting on my pipes and Jet Hot suggested I send them back.
Jet Hot recoated my exhaust pipes without any hassles, or questions. In fact, I
can not make a higher recommendation.

I had the chrome like finish done to mine and they are beautiful as well as
functional. I noticed a difference immediately. Jet Hot coated pipes scavage
the heat away from the engine and I got an extra 200 rpm and noticeable
increase in power and thats why Jet Hot is so well known in the racing
industries.  It will cost more then wrap but, you will never have to worry
about your exhaust rusting and the long term savings as well as the lower temps
are worth it.

What's the opinion on using header wrap tapes to reduce the undercowl temps?
