If you have a Magneto, you should drive your tach off that. I don't see where the Oil pump has anything to do with it. My EFIS ( Dynon ) just needs to see the pulse that is driving the ignition. If I have my VW ( which is for sale ) on the plane, then I would have the P-Lead running to the Dynon input. On my Corvair installation, I have the line that powers the coils running to the Dynon inuts.
