Hello All, I came across this link on the Thatcher CX4/5 groups or forums, http://www.cx4community.com/motorav/motorav_evolution.htm This group has redesigned the VW Type1 case and crank specifically for aircraft use. Apparently still cast of magnesium, notice the additional material in the case halves, especially the new forward bearing "snout", and the coinciding changes in the crank itself.
Personally, I can imagine the host of applications it would be used in if somone had the interest of doing the same with the Corvair engine, WOWser!!!! Mike Bynum
