You will want one or the other for drag in the landing phase to help stabilize the approach. A belly board is the least complicated to build and is quite antiquate for drag. I wouldn't bother going the flap route unless you can come up with a design that will actually give you a benefit in lift as well as drag. My 9X30 inch belly board is mounted to the floor immediately behind the rear spar and will lower to nearly 90 degrees. I've used it on every landing during the 430 hours of flight time on my KR. I wouldn't enjoy flying the KR nearly as much without it. I constructed mine from a piece of 1/4 inch foam with a couple of layers of glass on both sides. I routinely lower it at 110 mph on base or final. Larry Flesner
