I removed the filter element from my ACS 10580 gascolator for cleaning and
inspection as part of a Condition Inspection. There were no debris in the
bowl. When I attempted to reinstall the filter and bowl, the filter started
to crumble. That does not seem to be a desirable quality for a micron-sized
filter element. The filter appears to be granular sintered copper. What is
going on with the crumbling? Does Ethanol laced fuel do that to a metal
filter?
