Hi Folks, I'ma KR Newbie, been lurking around all the KR sites for a while now. I have come close to pulling the trigger on a build several times over the years but one thing or another got in the way (that never happens huh :) Anyway, I'ma prospective KR builder. In order to make my decision, I needed to go out and see what the envoronment is like. I've had the plans for a long time and have read over the book many times...and the book is crappy. I have taken specific note of all the ways builders have "improved" the design...the new airfoil, wing incidence, alternative engines, etc but I'm finding it a daunting task because the information I need is spread out all over the place. What I was expecting was a site, a sort of builder run library, of "known good" mods and innovations, contact info of someone who knows all about the mod, some sort of rating scale of difficulty...etc. Would that kind of thing help? (of course I know RR does not condone modification to their design.)
I think it would. I'd even help set it up or help manage it. I'ma web developer in my other life. The sad thing is more and more sites are taken down every year and the information contained therein dies with it. Sure many of them are run of the mill build logs, but some contain(ed) some real innovation. Besides, I think at least a few photos of the craft and its builder would be cool to hang on to. There are tons of broken links on so many KR pages, it takes so much time to go out and sift through it all to find relevant data, pics, drawings, etc. I'd like to see a central site that lists all the reputable mods, and innovative techniques worthy of consideration. I'd also like to see other site owners/builders who want to move on and take their sites down, to offer to transfer the content to the "librarian" as a matter of courtesy, for the sake of the community and future builders.
