My plans were purchased in the seventies. I called Ken Rand at that time and told him we (brother in law and I) were building 2 planes. He said it was not a problem but if you wish, just add a dash A after one of them. The FAA did not care about those numbers when we registered our completed projects. I have built another KR since without any serial numbers and am doing 2 other planes in the shop now without numbers. Incidentally' I could use some help in locating a corvair and a VW. I am looking for a completed VW and a corvair block for conversion. I had to remove myself from the KR forum for the past six months and have lost the communications I was having with several of you regarding the purchase of engines, parts etc. Pat Russo in Vermont -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Scott Sent: Tuesday, January 24, 2012 9:57 AM To: KRnet Subject: Re: KR> buying a KR2S Bob, I don't believe it is a requirement at this time, but as a courtesy, you should contact either Jeanette Rand or Steve at NV Aero and let them know you now have that serial number for plans. With most companies, that would give you better access to builder support. With the KRs, most of the builder support is on this forum, so it may not be quite as important. I'm sure Steve will correct me if I'm wrong on that statement. At this point in time, the FAA wants to see a paper trail back to the sale of a kit from a kit manufacturer. Since the KRs are plans built rather than kit built, that may not matter much. However, that is not to say the FAA won't decide they want a paper trail back to the original plans 5 years from now. Life will be easier if you already have the serial number for the plans registered in your name with the seller of the plans. -Jeff Scott Los Alamos, NM ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Boyd Sent: 01/24/12 07:33 AM To: kr...@mylist.net Subject: KR> buying a KR2S I am buying my friends KR2S project which is still in the boat stage. My question is, his was issued a serial number when he bought his plans, do I need to contact someone to have the serial number transferred? There is no N number assigned yet. Any advice would be appreciated.
