KRnet and Corvaircraft Members
This email is to outline our upcoming "EAA 82 Annual Grass Roots Fly-in" on July 9th and 10th. We will be displaying antique aircraft such as Aeroncas, Funks and Taylorcrafts as well as the Corvair powered KR-2S's of Mark Langford and Joe Horton. We also have a Fleet, a Pietenpol and a magnificent scratch built Waco 9 on the field. Roy Szarafinski will be there and can assist builders in checking components for the Corvair flight engines. He will also have one of his CNC machined "Fifth Bearings" on display. I will have my completed and test run my 2700 Corvair engine for my KR-2S on display. During our fly-in, there will be a recap of John Glenn's solo flight on May 1, 1941 at New Philadelphia (Clever Field), Ohio. We will have the first Taylorcraft Model "A" from July 7, 1936 on display as a tribute to Taylorcrafts built here in Alliance, Ohio. Some of preliminary activities for the early participants will be a pizza party and hangar stories on Thursday evening and a fish fry on Friday. There will be a pancake breakfast hosted by EAA 82 on Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 11 AM and lunch on Saturday from noon to 2 PM. The local Corvair club will have numerous restored Corvairs on display. They have proved to be a great source for Corvair engines to rebuild. My second core came from one of their members with only 45,000 miles on it for $60 !!!!!!!!!!!!! Members from the local PRA #19 rotorcraft club will also have some of their projects on display. The fly-in will be at Barber Airport (2D1), Alliance, Ohio. The field is located about 3 miles north of Alliance on route #225. If you need any additional info or have any questions, you can contact me @ 330-388-2074 or Ron Willet @ 330-314-0075. Come join us for some "plane" fun. For those who missed Corvair College #20, it's a chance to see from Corvair powered aircraft, bounce some questions off high time Corvair pilots Mark and Joe, and meet the master mechanic, Roy Szarafinski. Sounds like a great time to me !!!!! Come have some fun !!!!! Pete Klapp, building KR-2S N729PK, Canton, Ohio
