Craig, So let's correct your statement a little bit. "*WE* just sit around and plan....." If you're a part of the chapter, you can make a difference in how it operates. As a former tech counselor, and current chapter president, I can't tell you how many times I have asked for input from the membership on something and stand there looking at a room full of stone faces. If you think you're EAA Chapter isn't up to par, then make the commitment to make it into what you want it to be. When I accepted the responsibility of chapter president, our EAA chapter was practically dead. It had become about 5 guys that sat around drinking coffee and talking about airplanes. I made a committment that every meeting would be an opportunity to learn with a technical program, either speaker, demonstration or hands on, every month. I'm sure others can do it better than I have, but our membership is way up and our meetings are something that the membership looks forward to every month. It's not that hard to do.
Craig, you just happened to be the one that complained about your chapter so I singled you out. Don't take it personally as my criticism isn't directed specifically at you so much as EAA members as a group. Lots of guys are perfectly content to sit back and gripe about the way their EAA Chapter operates, but aren't willing to step up to help fix it. If you aren't willing to take on the responsibility to put together tech programs or arrange speakers for your EAA Chapter, then you really have no right to complain about the way it operates. I would bet that if you offered to start finding speakers for a monthly tech program, the chapter officers would be delighted to let you. Here they just sit around and plan the next parade or fly in. But I don't want to sound bitter. You guys are all the help I need. C
