The VW engine on the Black Bird is running again. The Tracy O'Brian brakes on the Black Bird SUCK. They won't even hold it at 1500 RPM. Maybe the third brand ( yet to be determined ), will work satisfactorily. I guess that is my next major project, other than installing the Corvair. All suggestions for good disk brakes will be appreciated.
I have the Dynons, D10-A and D10 networked together and most of the functions working properly. So far, I have not been able to use my PC ( no serial port ) for updating the firmware on them, so borrowed one from another Dynon user on the airport. This is soooo awesome. You have dual and separate units all at the same time. I can see the engine stuff on both, or switch between any page on the EMS and EFIS on either unit. This is really great for engine startup, when you want the engine instrumentation right in front of you. One button push and you get it. Too cool, but a lot of cash and a lot of work getting it wired and properly set up. I still don't have my AMP and TACH working properly and still need to calibrate the fuel computer so I can see exactly how many gallons I have in each tank. Maybe too much information. With the installation of the wing tanks, I have found that the weight on the tail with me and full fuel is heavy ( my perception ) and don't know what it is going to take to raise the tail on takeoff. I need to get my CHT and EGT working, to do the proper testing while making sure that I don't overheat the engine. If can't get comfortable with the weight distribution, I will just use the summer to swap over to the Corvair. I really don't want to do that, because it will probably mean that I won't be able to fly to the Gathering again this year. If you need a complete Firewall Forward installation that includes everything, even the cowling and motor mount, everything, and want to buy this VW 2276 unit, you can make my decision for me.
