Paulo I am going to presume that we are communicating with someone in Brazil, Portugal or Spain. You refer to Santos Dumont, a Brazillian I believe, however, I thought he built his planes in France. The wood called poplar has different qualities in different climates. Generally, the colder the climate, the slower the growth, hence the increased number of growth rings with the resulting increase in weight (specific gravity), and increase in shear, bending and tensile strenght. Our poplars here in North America are often referred to as Aspen, Yellow poplar and Cottonwood....with the Aspen most favorable. The KR aircrafts woodwork design (spars and boxed fuselage) has been around since before World War 1. It will lend readily to various woods. However, Poplar does deteriorate (rot) faster than Spruce and Pine, so surface finishes are important. Pat
