Dremel owners, I had a very positive experience with my model 400XPR. It quit turning on a few months ago so I started using my back up. When I decided to try to fix it I opened it up and decided it exceeded my skill level. So I called customer service. (1-800-437-3635) They asked if I had had it less than 5 years. I didn't have the receipt, but I thought it had been less than 5 years.
I was told to send it to their service department in Racine WI, along with a note with my address and phone number, explanation of the problem, and a statement that I had had it less that 5 years. They would either fix it or replace it. I sent it in on 3 September and got a new model 4000 in the mail on 9 September. They also sent a small sanding wheel and a nice letter, for my inconvenience. I suspect that someone out there has a similar problem. If you do, give them a call. They made me a happy camper. Brad Ankerstar
