When does the back end of this thing get going? Paul OReilly +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ At Oshkosh this year I watched a beautiful RV-8 taxi off R36 apparently heading for the RV parking area going about 20 mph on the concrete taxiway. The meeter/greeter/ground director was desperately signaling for the RV to stop since there were obstructions and people on the taxiway. At the last second the RV driver finally saw the problem and slammed on breaks. I saw a little puff of smoke from the tires as he locked the wheels. The tail rose slowly with the elevator full up until the prop started beating the concrete into submission. First time I had actually witnessed that as it happened. Bit and pieces of the composite prop scattered everywhere. Then the tail settled back onto the concrete. Confirmed: Taildraggers can and will do that when suitably abused in operation.
