Greetings! The 13th annual AirVenture Cup Race will be held on Sunday July 24. The racecourse will begin in Mitchell South Dakota and run 500 miles back to the finish line at Montecello WI.
A full weekend of fun and excitement is scheduled beginning on Friday with a media event and a pre-race party. On Saturday, the pit area is open to the public. It?s a great opportunity to share the love of aviation and inspire new pilots. Two years ago at Mitchell (we rotate between there and Dayton every other year) there were over 1500 people in attendance to look at the planes and see use fly. It has become a mini airshow in itself. Classes range from Unlimited racers that top 350+mph on the racecourse down to a new Sportsman Light class. The three classes that most of our airplanes will fit into are as follows: Sprint Class Any Experimental Category aircraft with an engine displacement of 240 cubic inches or less. Sportsman Class Any Experimental Category aircraft powered by a VW or Corvair engine converted for aircraft use. Sportsman Light Class Any Experimental Category aircraft meeting the rules of the Light Sport Category. What is included: Weekly flightline wristband Breakfast Saturday morning in Mitchell Lunch on Saturday Saturday night Pre-race dinner Sunday morning breakfast Post Race Dinner on Sunday night Ground transportation in Mitchell Race t-shirt Race program Entry Fee: $250 Official information is available and the newly revamped AirVenture Cup website at www.airventurecup.com.
