NetHeads, I flew up to Jack Cooper's flying at 04TN yesterday. I got off a little late due to low ceilings but got on top of the clouds shortly and enjoyed a nice flight up until the last. When I arrived the XM weather was showing rain there, but more importantly the ceilings at the two AWOS reporting stations between me and O4TN were reporting 200' ceilings. I decided to divert to Morristown and fill up with fuel and see if things would clear up, and sure enough after the 30 minute stop, it improved considerably. The airport bums at Morristown felt compelled to talk me out of flying behind something as "unsafe" as a Corvair, and one guy went so far as giving me the contact info for a guy that specialized in rotaries for aircraft! I was quite happy to get out of there.
At Jack's place they were grilling burgers and dogs, with a lot of the airport people and a some KR and Corvair folks in attendance. "Brother" Roy Szarafinski arrived with Jack's fifth bearing Corvair short block, and we had some good Corvair and KR conversations. Later Jack showed us several of the projects located around the airpark, including a huge hangar built entirely of wood by the local Amish. It's a gorgeous airport in the shadow of the Appalachian mountains, surrounded by rolling farmland. See http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/flights/100522175m.jpg for a typical picture across the runway. Thanks for having us Jack and Sandy...
