Thanks Dan. Vis-a-vis the conversion type, all I can say for certain is that there were a number of HAPI receipts that came in a large mess with the plane. I need to do a lot more reading to be able to ask questions in a manner that doesn't P.O. the assembly, and to ask ones that don't reveal my rank ineptitude in all matters aero-VW. I'm a bit paranoid about even broaching the VW vs. Corvair engine debate, as it has the smell about it of a religious war.
In the meantime, I'll see if I can coax some VW guru into coming to my garage and performing the tests you have recommended. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dan Heath" <da...@windstream.net> To: "'KRnet'" <kr...@mylist.net> Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2010 7:39 PM Subject: RE: KR> Stored aircraft engine startup question The only advise that I can give you from where I sit here in my home office, even though I have had 3 VW engines, is, have a very good VW mechanic go through the entire engine, paying particular attention to the heads. The rings could be rusted and the cylinders pitted, who knows. The valve springs should be replaced after having been in the same compression for all these years.
