Thanks for the advice Jeff, Roger, Oscar, and Joe. As you may have figured out,
wood is not my most knowledgeable subject. I read "sparcap" in the instructions
and assume they would be made from capstrip. Very bad assumption. You guys
saved me a bunch of money and time and possibly prevented me building something
that was not as good as it should be.
Joe, sorry about the "hokey" crack. I wonder if the mod was an attempt to
enable builders to use the wood they already had in the kits? I'm sure that it
is safe and airworthy or it wouldn't be there. I plan on using the 5048/45
airfoil so yes, I am building a different center spar. When I downloaded the
templates and had them printed I noticed in the fine print the measurements
needed if eliminating the foam extension. Since I am building the outer spars
why not make them one piece I thought. BTW-I live in a small town and we don't
have an Insty-Prints, etc. so I took the airfoil template pdf. file to the
local print shop. Said it would take a week and cost $30. I was going by
Staples and noticed they had a print department. Less than half a day and cost
me $7. As always, your results may vary.
