I haven't mounted mine yet, but did a good bit of research and have wiring
run already (the breaker's even hooked up and the connectors are installed)
to the wingtip, just as you say. My plan is to mount my Whelen Comet Flash
in the right wing tip adjacent to the strobe, and then plug it in to the
shielded wire that runs to the left hand tip strobe. I haven't flown that
setup yet, but it makes sense that the more distance you can put between
that power supply and everything else, the better.

I have the complete strobe setup and two different sets of nav lights (the
old incandescent and newer LED setups) in a box...just need to quit flying
long enough to install them! I missed a great weekend of flying because of
something stupid that I did last weekend. I flew up to visit Troy Petteway
last weekend, and noticed a very narrow mixture band where the engine ran
perfectly smoothly. That's unusual, and I also noticed that my carb temp
was rather low also, and that my ram air door wouldn't shut all the way,
which explains all of the above. Runing carb heat so that my carb throat
temp is above 65 or so gives better fuel atomization and distribution, and a
wide range of mixtures, which is how I get such good mileage by running so
lean.

So I started snooping around the airbox and found it "a bit wobbly" as the
British would say, so I spent the week tightening things up a bit, and
generally improving on it. Friday I took off work early to reinstall it and
go flying, and discovered that the critical throttle cable connection to the
carb was sheared off, something I did last weekend and didn't even realize.
I've got one on order now, but it'll be Tuesday before it comes in.
Actually I have TWO on order, so this will never happen happen again.
Wednesday's supposed to be decent, but that'll be 10 days without flying, so
I may need professional help and withdrawal therapy by then...
