The prototype KR-2, N4KR, was powered by an 1834cc Revmaster, which is an otherwise stock 1600cc VW with 99mm cylinders. This particular engine was a single ignition version and used a Bendix mag and a Posa carburetor. Revmaster gives the engine a continuous rating of 60 hp at 3000 rpms, which is on the conservative side. Ken Rand, the designer/builder, obtained cruise speeds of 180mph at 3200 rpm and airspeeds of 200mph at higher altitudes.
