Phil, There are so many aviation museums in the US that to cover that it would take you months of flying around the states just to see them all. Here is a good start:
http://www.aero-web.org/museums/museums.htm I think the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio would be close enough to fly to and one to see. Others on the web my have better ideas.
