To answer your question, my KT-76A transponder with an ACK encoder only draws 1.5 amps as per test with load meter. So it's not a demanding accessory. I've got the older 20 amp-at-3600 RPM Diehl alternator, which means I'm probably putting out only about 12 amps at 3000 cruise. The electronic ignition at low RPM is the biggest daytime electrical user at 5-6 amps.
