Sal, There is a plug on the left side of the VW 2180 engine into the oil pan. This is intended for the oil temperature probe. Ground is done through the pipe threads on the probe at the engine case. You can also get oil temperature info by tapping into the oil line if you have a remote oil cooler; then you have to ground the probe because the oil lines and AN anodized fittings will electrically isolate the probe.
Just use the factory tapped pipe thread hole on the side of the oil pan as designed and get 'r flying. VW2180 Can I remove (unscrew) a plug on the bottom of the engine and screw in a oil temperature sensor? Also is one lead of the sensor grounded? Is there another way of getting oil temperature data? I could not find any info on this. Thank You
