If you can get there a day early, or even two, you will enjoy what is the best part of the whole show. Sitting on the side of the runway, before the crowds & madness start, watching the planes come in.
And if two days early (even one day early if you're really feeling lucky) you can almost guaranteed have your choice of two or three spots in Paul's Park that haven't been taken yet. And take a bike. A fold-a-bike (Dahon) is very convenient to stick behind your seat. You can use it to prowl all over the place before they close the ramp gates and start charging admission. After that, there's still a lot of prowling you can do with it. I know, there are the little tractor carts but they take all day. A bike is what you want to get to the Pietenpol hangar or the seaplane base and all points in between. You'll be so sorry you didn't bring one if you don't. But forget the bike and Paul's Park . . . just get there early to watch the planes come in.
