 From my observations I'd have to agree that yes, you are overstating things.

I don't recall seeing anyone smoking on the ramp and around the aircraft.
If I had I would have asked them to put it out or go outside the fence.
I would hope anyone else would respond the same, in a polite manner,
of course.

There are picnic table outside the FBO where people set and smoke but I think
that is the last spot in the county they are allowed to smoke. :-)  Just avoid
that area and everyone will be happy.
