(Eaton, NY - April 28, 2009) - At approximately 2:30PM, State Police responded to a report of a small plane down in a wooded area just west of Wescott Road, in the Town of Eaton, Madison County. The small aircraft, an Explorer Aeronautique EcoFlyer, is believed to have left Norwich, NY at approximately 4:30PM yesterday afternoon headed to Canada. The plane was discovered by the property owner who came upon the severely damaged aircraft in a heavily wooded area approximately 1 to 2 miles away from the roadway. The pilot, who died in the crash. has been tentatively identified as 56 year-old, Bernard Laferriere from St. Gerard-Des-Laurentides, Quebec, Canada. The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation along with the Forensic Identification Unit from Troop D in Oneida and the Federal Aviation Administration are on-scene and continue to investigate the crash.
