There is an artice in a Contact! magazine of some years ago describing how to calculate the force on a flap. Maybe someone can look it up.

(it's been over 30 years since I've had to do this kind of math) * Flap size approximately 24" wide by 11.5" deep * Hinged at the forward leading edge * Deployed up to 60 degrees to relative airflow. * Pickoff will be ~6" back from hinge (1/2 way back) * Operating arm ~6" long * Torque tube across boat ~ 38" long * Centre pick-off at an arm ~6" long (driven by lever or actuator?) Q1 - what would the force be at the operating point on each flap Q2 - what torque would this be via the 6" arm? Q3 - would this translate to a force double this on the operating arm. Q4 - Has anyone used CF rod as a torque rod?
