OK, knock it off guys before Langford does figure out a way to get his plane
over there. I kind of thought I might get to catch up a few hours on him.
I did some forced economy vs. speed testing yesterday by following a 172 out to
breakfast. At about 2700 rpm, @ 125 mph indicated and burned just about 3
gal/hr. Came back home at 3050 rpm and that gives me just over 150 mph and just
under 4.5 gal/hr. There was 6 or 7 planes that flew out together and ya should
have heard them when I said I was only burning 3 gal/ hr.
I also found my upper liimit to x wind. Sure am glad the runway was at least
60 ft wide. Wind at landing was 60 deg from left, 15 kts gusting to 25 kts. I
had 3 little side ways skips with a lot of alieron and a lot of rudder input. I
don't think I had all of it in, but I was more concerned about staying on the
runway. That is more of an adrinalin rush than an engine out because I knew it
was coming and was going to try it anyway.
I did some other flying on Saturday- but that flight is better reported around
the camp fire than in public forum.
God, I love this plane.
