I too believe that the KR is the plane for me. Though 6'1" tall, I am told
the older versions are out, but I want as close as I can get to turbo
[normalizing, and subject to VW engine capability because economy high alt
cruise
is the idea here], RG, IFR, night plane. Before you reply there is no such
thing and it cannot be

If you are 6' 1" and you are long legged and short waisted you may fit in a
KR. But I am only 5'8" short legged, In a standard KR-2, plans built, My head
is against the caniope, and I have a very hard time reaching the lever for
the landing gear.
But, do not let this bother you. Think the changes thur that will be
necessary to make it fit you.
As for the VW engine well they are one answer. I have three KR- 's here 2
that I have bought and one that I am building. One of the KR-2's that I bought
has just over 750 hours, It has suffered two broken cranks, two broken props,
Four seperate times. and the last problem was a head coming loose due to
broken head bolts, lifted two jugs, and beat up the housing. This engine was
turboed ( a RJ, but without pressure relief, and the pioled said that he saw
the
manifold pressure go over 36 inches @ over 3600 rpm before the head came off.
But he was unable to reduce the pressure or speed before the damage was
done.)
However, The former owner of that plane has video tape of him putting her
thru a series of manuvers, that you may well not believe possible. And I am not

capiable of, due to lack of skill and fear.
But, there are engines other than VW, if IFR and night flight are your
thing, maybe a o-200, But with the additional main bearing on the corvar you
may
also be very safe. Read the July Aug 2008 Issue of contact Mag. ( It's about
Mark " L" engine )
And you may want to change the length, of the KR and the horz stabilizer and
elevators . Start by reading Mark " L " web page.
