Hello folks, new to the list here. Wanted to say hi to everyone and throw out an idea or two I've been thinking about. I'm still in the stage where I'm figuring out where and how everything will fit in my design but it is coming together nicely. Structural considerations will come next.
My design- Basically it will be a tandem KR-2S. What I plan on doing is stretching the rear fuselage approx. 1 foot from standard KR-2S dimensions and lengthening the nose approx 2 feet from standard. I envision the passenger sitting *in front* of the spar and slightly above it. Top of the spar will come to around the small of his back. Pilot in back with his knees over the main spar. The main spar will be lowered in the fuselage the required amount so that the pilot (I) can comfortably put my knees over the spar. The front passengers back will rise vertically to a point directly above the rear of the front spar and will rest on a bulkhead to split up the cockpit space. I plan this as solo from rear so the plane is set up to fly nicely solo. That way when I take a passenger I will not have an aft c.g. situation. Passenger will not be far ahead of the front spar so it will not make a big forward c.g. situation either. I will take advantage of having the passenger in front and the resulting slightly nose heavy situation by placing a baggage compartment in the aft fuselage so when I have a passenger I can carry stuff behind my seat and hopefully have the c.g. stay around where it's at when flying solo. I am designing this around myself -5'11, 155 lbs so cockpit space will not be excessive which will help with weight. Structurally it will be similar to the KR-2S (which will be my main inspiration). I plan on an unmodified KR-2S wing save for the improved airfoil which has been developed. I see my biggest hurdle as weight and balance- figuring out exactly what the proportions need to be. All doable though. So far I've been working on a 17% drawing to see how everything fits and so far everything does. I glad I found this list and I look forward to what is to come.
