For those building a KR and don't have anything to fly in the
meantime, I've got an idea for you. Ken Cottle, the builder of my KR-1½
which many of you know from when Steve Bennett owned it, has recently
finished a Sonerai IIL and has it for sale on Barnstormer's. Ken has got
the bug to build a Thatcher CX-4, a really nice looking metal taildragger
that takes a VW engine.

Do a search on Barnstormers for Sonerai II and you'll see his Sonerai.

Ken says he needs to sell the Sonerai for monetary reasons (to build the
Thatcher CX-4) and for hanger space. It is every bit as well-constructed
as my 20 year-old KR and needs nothing. It's beautifully finished,
registered, and flying and has great instrumentation. Even has a
Lowrance fuel flow meter. It'll never be worth less than what he's
asking for it, which is less than what he has in it . . . which seems to
be the normal situation. Those who build airplanes do it for the love of
building as clearly there's no profit in it. Ken builds museum quality
airplanes and indeed, has one I know of in a museum in Tulsa.

I took some pictures of his Sonerai IIL when I was visiting Ken on my
trip back to the Gathering. I've not tried to edit or organize them so
just sift through.

The Sonerai seems to do about the same as the KR. Two in tandem instead
of side-by-side, but speeds are the same from what I've read and heard.

For those of you building . . .

I flew over to Scottsdale last weekend and a couple of the sunrise photos
I took may be worth a look. It's a 5½ hour trip by car. Took me two
hours each way and 16 gallons of gas.
