Hi Guys and Girls;
I have thoroughly inspected the starter engagement mechanism and checked it against the Continental manual and I am confident that it is properly adjusted. It fully engages the starter gears before the electrical contacts close and they most definitely do close and there is plenty of over travel available beyond that for the contact switch but there is a very considerable amount of spring pressure to overcome which I cannot and should not change in the mechanism itself. Now it could be that there is a lot of mechanical drag in the pull cable itself when pressure is applied during the pull and that might be helped by the careful application of the proper lubricant (oil). I did not pull the cover off of the header tank yet which is what I'll have to do to lubricate the cable and like Larry said there may be far more cable twisted around in the header tank area than is necessary, so I'll have to check that out yet and let you know what I find. Have a great week everybody. Regards, Myron (Dan) Freeman Indpls, Ind. 46203-3570 Home of the Indy 500, the World's most famous auto race. mfreem...@indy.rr.com ? ? ? ? ? ?
