Phil,
once the pumps are full and under a little line pressure the sound may drop 
a little but they will never go quiet unless one stops completely like mine 
did once when I was at 1000' buzzing my brother-in-laws house. That was just 
another one of my heart stopping experiences that has taught me to be a 
better pilot. But to answer your question, NO, they should not stop making 
noise.
