I am building a Corvair engine and I am looking for suggestion as to what
conversion parts I should make myself. I have a local machine shop that can do
pretty much what ever I need (it just takes $$$). I have spoken with WW and he
is backed up for months and months and months. I need to figure out what parts
I really need to get from WW: the hybrid studs, the deep oil sump, ... I am
not sure if I could modify my own distributor and re-curve it.

Any thoughts as to what conversion parts I really should get from WW?

As far as obtaining the original engine was concerned, once I started looking I
found a bunch. There are several 'junkyards' that specialize in corvairs in
Southern California. I bought a complete engine for $100, then didn't like the
case and bought another block for $30. If you want to save every buck, you can
sell the un-needed parts on ebay, the carbs go for about $15-20.

Clark's Corvairs will sell you everything else you need for the basic auto
engine, again for $$$. Then you will have to wrestle with the decisions I am,
what to do about the conversion parts. WW does not, as a rule, stock these
parts, but collects orders and then fabs them as needed. Unfortunatley, they
are not done in sets, so he may have an oil pan order in the works but not one
for hubs.

I guess the best advise for a Corvair conversion is to plan way ahead, get all
the conversion parts on order 6 months before you need them....
