If starting from scratch, the 1500 watt ceramic heater and duct work can be had for about $30 total (depending on product availability in your area) and it too "Works pretty darn good". The heater is a no-brainier and you can be as creative as you want on the duct work. It is very safe with no open flames, can be plugged in (both approaches require electrical service) and left to run continuos if you want. You could even add a thermostat control to the ceramic heater and place it under the cowl to keep the engine area at a constant temp 24/7 if you want.
