I have worked extensively on both Cessna Cardinal and Beechcraft
Duchess landing gear.

The Cardinal is a fickle bugger that requires you to pump the gear
down in case of pump failure. If you pump to many times and the
over-pressure valve sticks, it snapps part of the apparatus off and
you get to make a gear up landing.

The Duck's gear is spring loaded to the down position. Open a bypass
valve and it pulls itself down right quick. Coupled with the
previously mentioned boat motor hydraulic pump you would have a nice
light and safe system.
