The information in your manual is up to date.
 
If you have good studs that have not unscrewed, leave them alone.
 
If they are good but have unscrewed without removing threads, follow the 
Manual and reinsert them with Loctite 620.
 
If they pull threads, Insert helicoil or timesert (not in 3,100s). Follow 
manual, resize bottom of stud and reinstall with 620.
 
Many motors we have built use timeserts and ARP head studs. An example is the 
red engine in the most recent 601 in our shop N42KP which you can see at 
http://www.flycorvair.com/hangar.html. They are good, but not required.
