I just saw this from a link on Wicks site. This is a small excerpt from
that article.

“We have been there,” Wick notes. “We have walked in the shoes of our
customers. This company started as a hobby – we started by building an
airplane.”
That plane was a Ken Rand KR-2, built over the course of three months in
1974. And while that plane marked the official establishment of Wicks
Aircraft Supply,

The concept was a perfect fit, especially since the pipe organ business had
its own company planes and pilots. Quickly, Wick, Haase and the others
decided to order a KR-2 kit, a new addition to the homebuilding industry,
and build the plane to see what it would take to get it done. That little
aircraft, with its 90-horse Volkswagen engine, put Wicks Aircraft Supply in
the spotlight.
“They took the plane up to Oshkosh, and it looked magnificent. The plane
just stole the show,” Scott Wick reveals. “It looked like something off the
showroom floor – people just went crazy over it.”
Right away, Wicks Aircraft Supply worked out a deal with Kend Rand and began
selling KR-2 kits, including parts and supplies.
