The "stock" RR retractable landing gear does not retract flush with the bottom of the wing. It rotates straight back until the tire almost touches the top surface of the wing. This leaves a substantial portion of the tire and stubby gear leg exposed as well as a large opening for the tire to reside in. All of this adds up to a very dragy situation. A properly faired Diehl gear with wheel pants will actually produce a slight increase in speed over the stock KR retracts.
