Dynel was what the KR was originally built with. Never heard of Xynole
though.

Subject: KR> fiberglass substitutes

I recently found 2 different possible cloths to substitute for
fiberglass. One is 4 ounce Dynel. It forms to curves and wets out
easily.Xynole has the same characteristics as Dynel, but it has better
abrasion resistance than glass cloth or Dynel.Neither of these cloths
wet out clear, this could be their down fall.I have been in contact with
a boat builder that claims 4 oz Xynole has the same strength as 6 oz
plain weave glass cloth.I plan to test this when I start building next
year.By the way Dynel and Xynole do not give you the itchys like glass
cloth, and it's cheaper too.If any one has experience with theses cloths
please post your findings and opinions. Here is my supplier for these
cloths http://www.raka.com/FiberglassCloth.html
Dynel and Zynole are $7.95 per yard U.S.They are located half way down
the page and below that there is a short description of the cloths.I
have researched these cloths on the internet and had contact with people
in the boat building community. Many email conversations.Until I can test
these I will not comment, other than they are POSSIBLE
substitutes.Always test new ideas and use common sense.
