I have to admit that I have toyed with the idea of the Tillotson HD series. The diaphragm in this thing is what's used in the Ellison EFS-3A, and if I were on a tight budget, I'd be tempted to buy one and try it. You can get a new one for something like $170 (I haven't looked lately), and it'd probably be worth tinkering with to save the money. And used ones go for cheap on ebay every day, from Harley guys upgrading to bigger carbs. Scuttlebutt on CorvAircraft is that it makes a fine airplane carb, but I can't refer you to anybody who's flown one. Go to the CorvAircraft search engine at http://www.maddyhome.com/corvairsrch/index.jsp and enter Tillotson for details. Yes, it has been used on everything from tractors to Harleys. Do your own research and make up your own mind if it's right for you...
