Yep, I made it home safe although it was on wheels and not in the air. I had left Mt Vernon headed to LaGrange, Ga to visit my family and was 75 miles south of Mt Vernon when my engine started crapping out. The mixture fell on the lean end of the spectrum and I could not get her to richen back up. I never lost total power but only had about 1500 rpm fluctuating up to around 200 rpm. I tried everything I could do the smooth her out to no avail. Scanning my gps and moving map on my laptop, I seen where the closest airport was Metropolis (M30) which sits on the Kentucky river ay the southernmost tip of Illinois. I was 13 miles out at 6500' and that put me about 6100' above ground level. I easily made the airport and was met by some of the nicest folks anyone could ever hope to run into at an airport. They did everything imaginable to assist me. Including going to get me lunch, take me 20 miles to the U-Haul dealer and kept the cold water flowing. When we found out the KR would not fit in the door of the 26 foot truck (it needed 2 inches to get through) one of the guys offered up his dual axle farm equipment hauling trailer for me to take the plane home on. I could not believe someone would do that since I live 500 miles from them. He told me to return it whenever I could. now that is unheard of.!!! These folks are great. They live close to Lake barkley and said if we get back down before the cold weather hits we could all go out boating one last time before the cold sets in. Can you imagine running into such great folks when one is in need. Anyway, there were five to ten folks helping at any given time. They strapped the KR to a pallet and came up with a forklift to set it on the trailer. I left Metropolis at 8:30 last night and arrived my hangar at 5am today. I went home and slept for five hours, then went to the airport and unloaded her. Good to be home with a plane that is not damaged.
