I am unsure of US sales description legislation, but I know that in UK ads are now much more conservative in performance claims. I doubt if Ken would make those speed claims today.
Back about then, I had a couple of Triumph TR6s the first built in 1972 had 150hp the second 1975 had a claimed 125hp engine. Both performed exactly the same, same top speed same 0-60. Triumph explained that they had fitted a softer cam, but they both looked the same! The only thing that really changed was in 1974 uk govt introduced the Trades Description Act. Remember the Timex watch adds where they fixed a watch to the prop of a speedboat, you don't see those sort of adds any more. That's not to accuse Ken of lying, it's just a change of culture, in those days we took all ads with the proverbial pinch of salt, today everybody expects the truth.
