Maybe you haven't seen http://home.hiwaay.net/~langford/kmlfd.html , where I
show how I did that. One thing I would do differently is wrap that piece of
plywood with a layer of glass that goes all the way around from inside of
the deck to the outside of the deck, really tying the hinge mounting pad
(the plywood) to the deck. Another thing I'd probably do is something like
Phil did with a lip hanging down to keep water out (not that I have a
problem with that), but then once that overlapping lip is finished, tape
over it with packing tape and build up a "joggle" so that the seam
disappears. That way you have you overlap and it's hidden. I woudn't make
it a half inch though, as it'd be prone to breakage when installing or
setting it down on something. An eighth of an inch ought to do it. That's
how my canopy's back edge is done, such that when it closes no air can leak
out on top, and no water can leak in. I didn't do that to the sides of he
canopy where it sits on the longerons because I think it'd be all chipped up
by now.
