On Bernie Mclean this morning. I was up as usual for my early morning flight when I decided to take a chance on seeing a KR project in the making. Bernie had asked me several times to come down to Poplar Grove, IL (C77) for a visit and to take a look at his KR he is building but I had never been able to get there so this morning I headed that way. I arrived at one of the most beautiful airparks I have ever seen at 8am. I taxied off the runway and called Bernie. Fortunately, he is not a late sleeper and was glad that I had stopped in. Bernie's house sits right on the side of the runway with spectacular views of all aircraft coming and going. They have a 3800 paved strip and two beautiful turf strips. I was amazed at the activity at this airport. There were RV's flying formation in groups of four and five, there was a Pitts flying around and I don't know how many Cessna's I seen but it was quite a few. These guys wake up, open their hangar door and go flying. What a life. Brenie's wife Carla was most hospitable and even whipped up a nice breakfast for us. Really fine folks and I look forward to seeing them again at the Gathering. Bernie has been building his KR for some time and has done some real nice work. His boat is in it's gear with tail feathers complete. He still has a ways to go but I think he is motivated and will finish it if he can just stay out of his Mooney long enough to work on the KR. Bernie and Carla, thanks for your great company this morning. My flight there and back put another 1.7 on the Hobbs. Coming home the clouds were building pretty good and topped out at 5500' and I was on top enjoying skimming them. What a beautiful flight. Can't wait till my next flight......bet that will be in the morning at daybreak. :-) Life is good.......Btw, it's SEPTEMBER and that means only 26 more days till the Gathering.
