During tonight's sunset flight, I had ATC check my transponder signal. I am not identing when I key my mic and transmit as I suspected I was. The ident button is simply picking up on the keyed mic and lighting up. It does not stay lit for 20 seconds as when identing. I am convinced the culprit is the antenna coax cables are run next to each other causing the false signal. No biggie, I will reroute one of the cables to the opposite side of the fuselage. Thanks for all the input guys on this issue.
