Ray,
I used to have an EFS-2. It sounds as if the problem is possibility in
the diaphragm of the regulator. There could be a crack in it and it may
need replacing. Langford took his EFS-3 apart just out of curiosity to
see what was in there and he found the following:

       This is addressed to those of you who have had experiences with

       I have been running my VW 1835 since an overhaul to replace a cam
gear. I am 
having problems getting it adjusted,  The timing seems to be close, but
I do have firing 
in the exhausts. There appears to be excess fuel coming through the
meetering tube.

       Any suggestions or comments?
