Hi Jeff; Welcome to the KR net.
A 100 hp Type 4 V W engine, hmmm where did you get those specs from? I thought I had the biggest type 4 made. Well, anyway, Steve Bennett at great plains recomends a 54"X 50" for better climb performance from a 2600 cc type 4 V W engine, Ed Sterba from Sterba Props http://www.greatplainsas.com/edorder.html recomended a 54"x 54" for speed if that's what your after and another one recomends a 54"x 52" for all around work so take your pick. 180 mph is the goal but it is hard to reach in level flight for most. The Corvair"s and the new RevMaster 3000 cc will have an easier time getting there.
