The Europa with a man and his wife were on short final for east west runway-actually west bound, the controller had them make a left turn to take the north south runway. He was obviously too slow and spun in according to witnesses.
The RV6 (I believe it was) was headed back north and was taking a Canadian back who had hitched a ride. The passenger (63 years young) turned around to look back when the noise started ( prop hitting the fuselage) it was said after seeing the videos that were taken that the passenger may have been saved if he had not turned around and sorta leaned rearward when he did. I have ridden with my friend in his RV6A a lot in times past. I usually put my arm around behind him to give us more room. I had guessed that is what this guy did. When he turned around he must have leaned backwards some because the prop cut his left shoulder and arm off as well as part of his head. The engine on the Warbird was shut down in time to save the pilot. The plane that went down in Lake Michigan the last day Sunday was one of the new Cub Legends made in Sulphur Springs Texas. One of the company reps was flying it with the new owner back to to the new owners home base. It did go down but both people were OK and rescued. The plane did make it to the bottom of the lake though. Larry H.
