Got a message from Eric the other day and thought the rest of the net might
benefit from the info also. You VW guys go back to your planes. Eric asked
about the part numbers for the vertical spin on adaptor I am using and the
adapta bolt for adding the pressure sensor to the setup. The temp gauge sensor
occupies the spot for the original pressure light sensor. The part numbers are:
the vertical spin on adaptor is # C5934N and the adapta bolt is # C7521.

My feelings were that this keeps the assembly as simple as possible, ie: no
lines to break or leak, and the assembly moves right with the engine, and no
loss of oil pressure due to lines. I don't think anyone has reported any loss
of oil pressure, just eliminating the possibility. I am also using the large
Corvair bus oil cooler in the stock location - 12 row instead of the car 8 row.
Again not because it is better, just because I am anal about KISS. I did have
to drill and tap the oil filter housing slightly in order to mount the temp
sensor. This was due to the sensor was the perfect thread, but needed more
depth, and would hit inside the housing prior to seating all the way. I bought
a standard pipe thread drill bit and tap combo from Ace Hardware, and tapped it
to match the smallest adaptor that came in the gauge kit. I am using all
electric gauges, again to keep it simple and eliminate big lines through the
firewall, favoring wires instead. If I lose electrical I am heading to the
ground anyway, cause the engine will be dead, so not having the instruments
won't matter. If you run a mechanical oil pressure, then you can run the
pressure fitting on the adapta bolt from Clarks Corvair, and the temp in the
housing hole like I did. The adapta bolt is not deep enough for the temp
sensor. If both instruments are mechanical, then you will have to drill and tap
the housing also, because the bulb is too big in length, and I think tread to
match the housing as is. I have the bell of the pressure sensor on the adapta
bolt with a 90 degree fitting for cowling clearance (fitting was acquired at
Pepboys, but should also be available at Ace).

Just thought it might help some....
