I just returned from the Wautoma, WI Cluckenfarten Fly-in. BBQ chicken, baked
potato and several styles of baked beans were on the lunch menu. Good eating, I
must say the least, but the company at the lunch table was even better. KR
builder Pete Brautigam sat right across from me and we shared many a good
story. Also at the table was Peter Lipa who built one of the first KR-1's and
knew Ken Rand pretty well. It is just amazing who and what you will run into at
one of these fly-ins. There were quite a few aircraft there and a good crowd of
folks to boot. I took the cowling off my KR so everyone could drool over the
Corvair engine and they did. Lots of questions and great comments on both the
engine and the plane. That is one of the things which makes it all worth
while. One lady who arrived in the right seat of a RV, which parked two spots
away from me, got out of the RV, walked right up to my KR and the first thing
out of her mouth was "beautiful, beautiful, just beautiful, did you build
that?" Boy, did that boost my ego. Made me forget all about those taildragger
comments I have been reading lately. Keep building guys, your rewards are
nearer with every drop of glue and epoxy you apply.
